The Reminder

The Reminder

Just about every time I’m about to take a break or give up on doing this blog God gets my attention to make me remember why I do this.  I’m doing a weekly Bible study blog with an emphasis on Hope found in God’s Word.   There’s someone other than me that needs it.  Sometimes I’m the one that needs it.  If you’ve ever seen the movie Aladdin I often feel like Aladdin when the Genie hits him over the head and says, “He can be taught.”  We’re not all going through the same struggles, but we all need to turn to the God who can handle them and we need that reminder.  We’re all in the boat with the disciples and we need to look to the back of it.

Mark 4:35-41

“As evening came, Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Let’s cross to the other side of the lake.’  So they took Jesus in the boat and started out, leaving the crowds behind (although other boats followed).  But soon a fierce storm came up.  High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water.  Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion.  The disciples woke him up shouting, ‘Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?’  When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Silence! Be Still!’ Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm.  Then he asked them, ‘Why are you afraid?  Do you still have no faith?’  The disciples were absolutely terrified.  ‘Who is this man?’  They asked each other.  ‘Even the wind and waves obey him.’”

Some of these guys were experienced fishermen by trade they should know what to do in a storm.  We can think we have all the answers and have as many plans as the A-Team but we still need to turn to God for real hope and trust Him.

This week I was given another reminder.  It was a reminder of why I started doing this life group that turned into a blog.  I had a passion for people like me who work nights.  One thing churches fail to do is have overnight services for those people who work nights to go to when they are off work.  If you’ve never worked nights when you are off work, you are still up in the wee hours of the morning.  I do this blog thing as an email and a video.  I don’t know when people watch or read it, but I know God uses it.  I know a Sunday school teacher who posts part of his lessons on Facebook.  I know a guy who shares God’s Word on Linked In.  I also know several people who post scripture on Facebook.  When we use our passions in God honoring ways, he uses that.  Mine is to share hope.  Jesus called us to go to the uttermost part of the earth.  Sometimes that is cyber space.  Sometimes it’s face to face.  We can’t pin it down.  We don’t know everyone’s problem, but we can point them to God and we can have a passion for doing so.  I don’t know what God uses you to do but maybe like me you need a reminder to keep doing it.  Never give up!  Someone needs God’s word that you are willingly sharing.  Keep doing what God has called you to!

Colossians 3:16-17

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness fill your lives.  Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.  Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.  And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father.”
