Christmas Reminder

Christmas reminder

It has truly not felt like a Christmas season to me.  Between hospital visits, tire trouble, working like crazy, bills taking all your money.    Maybe like me you need a reminder of what this season is about.

Today I've been thinking a lot about Matthew 1:23.  "Look!  The virgin will conceive a child!  She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel which means 'God is with us'". See I personally at times need that reminder and I need to rest knowing God is with us.  Now I call this blog a weekly dose of hope and I sometimes need it as much as you.  I've had a few weeks that have been rough but I want to direct you to 2 Samuel 22:32-37 because we need to be reminded of what it means when God is with us.  Why because Christmas and Easter are the biggest doses of hope ever!

"For who is God except the Lord?  Who but our God is a solid rock?  God is my strong fortress, and he makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. He trains my hands for battle; he strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow.  You have given me your shield of victory; your help has made me great.  You have made a wide path for my feet to keep them from slipping."

"He led me to a place of safety; he rescued me because he delights in me."

You will here a lot of people say thank you baby Jesus but here's the thing he isn't a baby anymore.  He was born of a virgin, died on a cross for our sins, rose from the dead was seen by over 500 people as declared in scripture.  His name means God with us and for the Christian he is the expected returning King of kings.  See Christmas is a message of hope because of this.  "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."

I don't know what stress you're dealing with this season but there is hope.  1 Peter 5: 10-11 "In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus.  So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you and he will place you on a firm foundation.  All power to him forever! Amen."

Like the City Harmonic said "This is the story of the Son of God hanging on a cross for me.  But it ends with a bride and groom and a wedding by a glassy sea."

"Never give up hope, at least not so early in the game."

Odd fact or side note I discovered Psalm 18 and 2 Samuel 22 almost mirror one another in the New Living Translation.  It's really very cool.

Respect

Respect

We're living in a day and age where the news and social media talk a lot about police and how bad people think they are.  I'll admit I have seen the police get things wrong but we are still to obey them and the laws of our land.  I have witnessed some bad driving and I'm opposed to it.  I have even known a few people claiming to be followers of God who don't obey the speed limit and some have admitted to physical altercations with the police when stopped.  Corpus Christi has some of the worst drivers ever.  There are even people who post on Facebook when and where they see police to warn people.  If you obey the laws of the road you have nothing to fear.  Stop breaking the law.
.  Did you know the laws of our land are in place for reasons?  The government in our land and law enforcement deserve a little more respect.  Don't do it because you don't want to get in trouble but because it is the right thing to do as passed down by God.  What do you mean Zac?  Maybe you have never read Romans 13.

"Everyone must submit to governing authorities.  For all authority comes from God, and those in positions have been placed there by God.  So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted and they will be punished.  For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong.  Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right and they will honor you.  The authorities are are God's servants, sent for your good.  But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you.  They are God's servants sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong.  So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience."  Romans 13:1-5

Not all police are corrupt and they are there for our protection.  Don't believe everything you see in the news.  Your policemen and women and first responders and military are the first in a line of people who are willing to lay down their lives for you and me and they deserve more respect than they get.  Christians are called to be different and as a result we should treat our police better.  Are they perfect no but guess what neither are we but we need to be better.

Because of

If you study the Old Testament and specifically the original temple where the people of Israel worshipped God you learn that their was a veil between the temple and what was called the Holy of Holies where the presence of God resided and the Ark of the Covenant sat.  I was reading Psalms chapter 5 and there's this very simple yet significant verse.  7."Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house; I will worship at your temple with deepest awe."  This is a Psalm of David and when I say I find it significant there's a reason for that.  David says "Because of your unfailing love, I can enter your house."  Even as a king he could only go so far into the temple.  If you read about the crucifixion you learn that the veil separating the temple and the Holy of Holies was torn in two that day.  Jesus Christ poured out his life on the cross because of the unfailing love of God.  Now consider that in the context of what King David said many years prior about entering the temple.  Because of God's unfailing love which was provided by Christ's sacrifice when we pray we can enter the throne room of the King of Kings.  Now consider Ephesians 2:6 "For he raised us from the dead along with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ Jesus."  Hebrews 10:19-22 also shows us we have access because of Christ's sacrifice.  Access that is 24/7 365 days a year.

"You are I Am and i am because you are."
