Psalms 103

I read this chapter and I think we all need to sit back and read it and see the majesty of our God.

1.  "Let all that I am praise the Lord; with my whole heart I will praise."  Reminds me of a song called With Everything.  "With everything we will shout forth your glory with everything we will shout forth your praise."
2.  "Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget all the good things he has does for me."  Take a walk outside this week doesn't have to be long but look around and thank God for the good things around you.  David is about to list some good things.
3.  "He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases."  This is where Kari Jobe got her song Healer because it's word for word this verse.  God's forgiveness is something I can never thank him enough for.
4.  " He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies."  The bible says before we were saved by believing in Christ we were walking dead men and women.  God redeemed us from spiritual death and crowned us with his love and tender mercies.
5.  "He fills my life with good things.  My youth is renewed like eagles!"  I have 2 verses I often turn to because at the end of a work day I have been thru an emotional battle and the verses are very similar to this one.  Psalms 23:2-3 "He lets me rest in green meadows he leads me beside peaceful streams.  He renews my strength."  I often as laying down to sleep ask God to renew my strength and restore my soul.
6.  "The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly."  I grew up around the old hymn The Solid Rock being played on the piano by my sister so when I read this verse my mind went to that one line.  "Dressed in his righteousness alone faultless to stand before the throne."
7.  ""He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel."  God raised up a nation and people and eventually Gentiles like us had the chance to be saved.
8.  "The Lord is compassionate and merciful slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love."  Thank you Lord!
9-10.  "He will not constantly accuse us nor remain angry forever.  He does no punish us for all our sins; He does not deal harshly with us as we deserve."  Lest we be consumed by the ever-living God.
11-12.  This is good news and extreme hope.  "For his unfailing love toward those those who fear him is as the height of the heavens above the earth.  He has removed our sins as far from as the east is from the west."
13.  "The Lord is like a father to his children. tender and compassionate to those who fear him."  I come from a family where both of my granddads, dad and brother-in-law all reflect God's love as a father.
14-15.  "For he knows how weak we are; He remembers we are only dust.  Our days on earth are like grass like wildflowers, we bloom and die."  Our time is limited.
16.  "The wind blows and we are gone- as though we had never been here."  In light of eternity dating celebrities really don't matter.
17-18.  "But the love of the Lord remains forever with those who fear him.  His salvation extends to the children's children of those who are faithful to his covenant of those who obey his commandments."  These 2 verses are awesome!
19.  "The Lord has made the heavens his throne; from there he rules over everything."  Nothing ever catches God off guard.
20-22.  A call to praise God

Christmas by way of Psalms 100

Before we look at Psalms 100 i want to shift your focus to Psalms 102:18.  "Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord."  Think about that for a moment God has so preserved his word over the ages so you and I and even people to come after us who have yet to be born will praise him.

1.  "Shout with joy to the Lord all the earth!"  Ever seen those moments at churches where its so somber you'd think the service was for a funeral instead?  God wants his people to be joyful.
2.  "Worship the Lord with gladness.  Come before him singing with joy."  I'm not always the best in the joy and gladness department but I'm working on it.
3.  "Acknowledge that the Lord is God!  He made us and we are his.  We are his people the sheep of his pasture."  The first phrase in this verse says to acknowledge the Lord is God.  Lately when I'm having a bad time at work I have been walking outside at work letting a breath out and saying "God you're still in control."  It lifts a great weight off me.
4.  "Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.  Give thanks to him and praise him."  God deserves our praise.
5.  "For the Lord is good.  His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation."

At Real Life Corpus we have been going over how worship ties into Christmas.  some of you need some good news to make you smile this Christmas and some of you need to worship God.  This is Christmas by way of Psalms 100.  Over 2000 years ago God who is good and his unfailing love continues forever sent his son because his faithfulness continues to all generations.  His word has been preserved for future generations to read and praise him.  Jesus isn't in a manger anymore He's a risen King that God sent to die on the cross to forgive you and me from our sins because of unfailing love.  This Christmas worship your King.
