love and forgiveness

This week i found a similar verse to one of my favorites which is Romans 5:8  "But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners."  See sometimes in churches or as Christians we sing songs and read verses and I believe we start to take God's love and forgiveness almost for granted and even miss the cost of our sin.  When I came across this verse it was a good wake up call.  Psalm 65:3  "Though we are overwhelmed by our sins you forgive them all."  At some point in your near future thank God for his love and forgiveness.
"Oh for the wonderful love He has promised-- Promised for you and for me!  Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon-- Pardon for you and for me!"
"I'm forgiven because you were forsaken.  I'm accepted you were condemned.  And I'm alive and well your spirit is within me.  Because you died and rose again.  Amazing love how can it be that you my King would die for me.  Amazing love I know it's true.  It's my joy to honor you in all I do I honor you."

2 Peter 3:9 and ! Timothy 1:16 are for those who want to do some extra reading

Pour

There's a common misconception in church going people's minds that one has to pray with big words and flowery speeches.  You have to sound fancy for those around you.  More and more as I study scripture I find that God wants our honesty.  If you read Psalms you find David and the other writers to be some of the most brutally honest people ever.  I came across this verse and it stopped me and the more I read it the more I love it.  Psalm 62:8 "O my people, trust in Him at all times.  Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge."  The sentence and thought structure are just WOW!  David found who to turn to and begs his people to do the same.  We are called to trust.  That phrase "Pour out your heart to Him" it's packed with vulnerability because to pour out something you empty the container you're pouring from.  Until you admit you can't do it alone you're not really honest with God.  It's hard to admit you even need Him to be your refuge when you won't face the fact that you need help.  There's surrender in this verse.  A few years back Christian musician Margaret Becker sang this song and the words get the part about being honest with God that I'm referring to.  "You may feel like you're crawling, over broken glass Crying a river into the pillows of your past.  But you will be free, yeah.  Oh, God's not afraid of your honesty.  He can heal your heart if you speak honestly.  Humble sorrow and the honest cry He will not pass by."  In Luke 18:9-14 Jesus tells a story about the tax collector and the Pharisee.  The Pharisee prayed a high and lofty prayer and compared himself to others but the tax collector was honest.  "O, God be merciful to me, for I am a sinner."  He poured his heart out to God and was vulnerable and honest.  In Romans 8:15 we as Christians are given a name for God of Abba, Father.  As our Father we approach him with the ability to pour our hearts out to Him and He becomes our refuge.  Another way to think of this would be.  If you had a good earthly father and someone caused you trouble you knew if you ran to dad he's going to do everything in his power to take care of his child.  We have that in God!

Good Morning

I have a strange work schedule.  Thursday-Sunday I see the sun go down at work.  On Monday and Tuesday morning where I work faces right where the sun comes up.  I'd like to talk a bit about day and night.  Genesis 3:3-5 "Then God said `Let there be light!' And there was light.  And God saw the light was good.  Then he separated the light from the darkness.  God called the light "day" and the darkness "night".  And evening passed and morning came marking the first day."  For years now I have worked nights God created me to prefer doing so.  When you work nights you yearn for the sunrise because it spells the end of your day.  Those who know me well know I am a voracious reader.  One of my favorite fantasy authors is R.A. Salvatore.  He has this character Drizzt Do'Urden that he writes a specific way.  He tells of his adventures but after each chapter he goes into a first person perspective of Drizzt's observations on things.  I want to share with you one of those profound thoughts on daybreak.  "Why watch the dawn?  Why then, why that particular time, instead of any other hour of daylight?  Because at the dawn the sun is more brilliant by far.  Because at dawn, we see the resurgence after the darkness.  There is my hope, for as with the sun, so it can be true of people.  Those who fall can climb back up, then brighter will they shine in the eyes of those around them."  Morning is a "restart element".  Here's how I know that.  In Genesis it said the changing of darkness to light signified the first day.  Also there's this.  Lamentations 3:22-23 "The faithful love of the Lord never ends!  His mercies never cease.  Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning."  as the day starts his mercy begins anew.  If you need a bigger example of the most awesome morning read John 20.  Why because Resurrection morning was a sunrise I mean Son Rise like no other in all of history.  As you view sunrise or sunset throughout your day greet it with praise to God.  My friend David brought this to my attention.  "A day is neither good or bad.  Sure good and bad can happen but it is still the day the Lord has made."  I want you to remember this.  Psalm 113:3 "From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the Lord's name is to be praised.
