Coworkers story

The Coworkers story

For those that may not know and there are some who do.  This blog is emailed to a few people because it started out as a blog for church members, family and friends and a few months back I sent them a prayer request because of my work situation.  I worked for a company from September to April.  Towards the beginning of February a man started making my job very difficult.  He would come by the guard house and say things to me that were very much sexual harassment.  Because the police and people over me in management couldn’t find a legal way to resolve the issue I was removed from the site allegedly for my protection and spent about two months with no work or pay.  I took on a second job working for Favor delivering groceries and food.  I learned some things in the meantime and that would be certain people in management had worked against me to have me gone.  I also found out that my friends Debra and David were trying to get my job back.  Some of you may be saying this is not Zac’s normal Batcave blog and no it’s not.  I have a point but you have to bear with me.  See I didn’t put a lot of these events together till recently.  It was a long stressful time for my wife and I because I’m not the type of person to not try to support Marion and I.  I wanted to work and being a security guard is something I enjoy doing.  As I stated in the meantime other things were happening.  My friend and coworker, Debra quit.  But I found out from her that she had been fighting to try and get me back to work and simply became fed up with management decisions.  Marion and I meanwhile were working for Favor and we helped Debra take up that line of work as well.  We had multiple phone conversations with her trying to help her learn the job.  Recently I was contacted by a friend I had once worked with and she was recommending me for a job.  One I was very familiar with.  I had to give it a lot of prayer and thought.  It meant driving further to work but it was steady and paid more than the sporadic guard work I was getting.  So I quit one job and picked up a new job.  Things fell into place in ways only God could make happen.  I literally worked my last shift at one job and then went to train for a new one.  When I got hired I started asking if they were hiring more people.  Knowing my friend Debra didn’t have a job other than working for Favor as well I kept telling her to apply with the company I was working for.  Things happened where one employee was not able to stay and work.  Debra just got hired for that shift because I referred her.  I was talking to Marion as we drove to the grocery store and telling her that all these horrible things happened but in the end God has been using it to help us and then help Debra as well.  We have referral bonuses for helping the company get more workers and from what I’m hearing it will benefit both of us.  Something else that went on during all of this is we inherited a new house and mine and Marion’s family helped us a lot.  We recently sold our old house.  We are blessed very much so and the glory only belongs to God.

I told you I have a point to all of this.  The man who caused me problems before thinks he won by getting rid of me and to me at the time it very much felt like he did.  See everything that happened yeah it hurt at the time.  But God used it for good!  If you look in the book of Genesis at the life of Joseph he gets sold by his own brothers into slavery then gets put in jail and through events only God could change he becomes second in command of all of Egypt saving thousands of lives and he makes a proclamation to his own brothers who meant him harm.  The things that they meant to harm him God used all that.  The bad stuff that happened to me with work God used it!  Was it fun?  No.  But I look back now and see Him at work in it.

See Romans 8:28 says this.  “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.”

I don’t know what is happening in your lives I barely understand what’s happening in mine a lot of times but God can be trusted!  He’ll use the good and bad in your life.

All who Seek

All who seek

So if you’ve ever seen the original Mortal Kombat movie there is a line in it that we all need to remember.  Why you ask?  Because this is a blog with an emphasis on Hope.  “Never give up hope!  At least not so early in the game!”  Now maybe I can’t say the line exactly like Christopher Lambert but I can point you back to Hope found in God’s word and that’s better than anything found in a movie.

Psalm 68:3-6

“But let the godly rejoice.  Let them be glad in God’s presence.  Let them be filled with joy.  Sing praises to God and to His name!  Sing loud praises to Him who rides the clouds.  His name is the Lord—rejoice in his presence!  Father to the Fatherless, defender of widows—This is God, whose dwelling is holy.  God places the lonely in families, he set the prisoners free and gives them joy but he makes the rebellious live in a sun scorched land.”

So here’s another example of scripture turned to song.  This is from Strong God by Meredith Andrews.

“Father to the fatherless, defender of the weak

Freedom for the prisoner we sing

This is God in his holy place

This is God clothed in love and strength

Sing out lift your voice and cry out

Awesome is our strong God mighty is our God.”

I titled this all who seek and this next passage is exactly why.

Psalm 69:32-33

“The humble will see their God at work and be glad.  Let all who seek God’s help be encouraged.  For the Lord hears the cries of the needy, he does not despise his imprisoned people. “

Seek God and find hope because He is Hope!

Counsel of the Holy

 Counsel of the Holy

The Bible has passages that are often very cause and effect.  If you do one thing this is what will happen.  There’s a passage I keep reading in  Jeremiah that is very true of this.  The heading in my New Living translation says Wisdom from the Lord.  Before I share the passage though I want to show you the lyrics from a song by Petra called Counsel of the Holy.

“Counsel of the Holy
The written Word of God
Wisdom cries for all to read
Counsel of the Holy
The greatest book of all
Is the path to victory.”

See we need God’s wisdom not our own.

Jeremiah 17:5-10

“This is what the Lord says:
‘Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.  They are like stunted shrubs in the desert with no hope for the future.  They will live in the barren wilderness in an uninhabited salty land.
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.  They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water.  Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought.  Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.
The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked.  Who really knows how bad it is?  But I, the Lord search all hearts and examine secret motives.  I give all people their due rewards, according to what their actions deserve.’”

It’s pretty clear that it is to our benefit to seek God, trust Him and follow Him.

Psalm 1 also makes the tree comparison in relation to our lives and choices.

Psalm 1:1-3

“Oh, the joys of those who do not follow the advice of the wicked, or stand with sinners, or join with mockers.
But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.
They are like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither and they prosper in all they do."

Following God doesn't require you to have a degree in rocket science.

River of Life

 River of life

I try often with the blog to show the participants music that will somehow help them remember scripture.  There’s a little known song by Rebecca St James that she sang on an album called Heaven and Earth with other female Christian artists.  I’m going to introduce you to the lyrics and then show you the passage in Psalms that it goes with.

“O God, You are my God
Earnestly, I seek you
Earnestly, I seek you
My soul it longs for you
In a dry and weary land

Your love is better than life
My lips will glorify you
I will praise your name as long as I live
In your name I will lift up my hands
And my soul will be satisfied
You are the River of Life

I will remember you
Think of you through the night
I hide my soul in you
You are the River of Life”

Now before I get to the Psalm I want to show you a verse in the New Testament that came to mind when I gave thought to the song and the Psalm.

John 4:13-15
“Jesus replied, ‘Anyone who drinks this water will soon become thirsty again.  But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again.  It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them giving them eternal life.’
‘Please sir,’ the woman said, ‘give me this water!  Then I’ll never be thirsty again, and I won’t have to come here to get water.’”

Our souls have a void in them only God can fill because He is our River of Life!

Psalm 63:1-8
“O God, you are my God;
I earnestly search for you.
My soul thirsts for you;
My whole body longs for you
In this parched and weary land
Where there is no water.
I have seen you in your sanctuary
And gazed upon your power and glory.
 Your unfailing love is better than life itself;
How I praise you!
I will praise you as long as I live
Lifting up my hands to you in prayer.
You satisfy me more than the richest feast.
I will praise you with songs of joy.

I will lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.  Because you are my helper,
I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings.
I cling to you;
Your strong right hand holds me securely.”

“Where earth and wind, and sky and sea will never match your majesty
From where I stand I’m crying out
Jesus you are life to me

And when I see your face I’ll know
All the pain and tears will go
To the bottom of the sea
You’ll forever be holy, holy”

Turn

 Turn

There’s an old song by the Byrds that’s actually based on Ecclesiastes 3 and it says this:

“To everything turn turn turn
There is a season turn turn turn
And a time for every purpose under Heaven.”

Do you know what time it is?  Don’t look at your watch or your phone because I’m about to give you four verses in Psalm 62 that will tell you exactly what time it is.

Psalm 62:5-8

“Let all that I am wait quietly before God, for my hope is in Him.  He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress where I will not be shaken.  My victory and honor come from God alone.  He is my refuge, a rock where no enemy can reach me.  O my people, trust in Him at all times.  Pour out your heart to Him, for God is our refuge.”

There was a thing I saw posted on Facebook yesterday I want to conclude with because it said this.

"When you feel overwhelmed, You're spending too much time with the world and not enough time with God.....
He is our peace!!!"
