It's Different

It’s different

So I’ve been off and on thinking about this since Sunday.  Been doing this blog for eight years and Sunday it hit me I do something backwards or maybe it’s not me that’s backwards.  See if you go to a church service at Real Life Corpus Christi you start with 3-4 songs a sermon and maybe one song after.  Same with Lakeview Baptist Church where my dad is a Pastor.  So you come to this blog and instead the message is first and then links to the music.  Yeah that’s what those links are for Christian music.  Ya might want to click on them because they are there for a reason I work hard on that part too. Did I get the music out of order?  Maybe not.  See this is a blog where I’ve allowed the reader to see me vulnerable I’ve let them go behind the scenes.  Well why is the music at the end?  I think churches kinda miss something by not having music after good news from God’s Word.  See the speaker teaches and brings good news but I think you should have a chance at the end of the service to show thankfulness to God.  But like I tell people there was really never a guide to teach me how to do a Bible study blog when I started this.  I had two people basically tell me they thought my life group should go online and I was set up with a space to do it.  I still don’t think I know how to teach my way out of a paper bag.  This is just me being a fan of comics, wrestling video games and cartoons studying God’s Word and being willing to write and share it.  Maybe it doesn’t come with the usual things a pastor shares illustrations with.  Sometimes I treat it like pro wrestling promos.  I try to present things in different ways.  In the end the whole blog is not about Zac and it shouldn’t be.  It’s about God he deserves all the glory.  I haven’t found anything in the Bible to actually tell you if the songs should come before or after a sermon.  I’ve never even seen something say you can’t share God’s word in a blog but most of the New Testament is made of letters to churches.  Letters uh blog uh written word online by a weirdo hmm I don’t know maybe it connects and make sense somehow.  Here’s what I do know.

1 Corinthians 12:18-20
“But now God has placed the members, each one of them, in the body, just as he desired.  If they were all one member, where would the body be?  But now there are many members, but one body.”

God has a purpose for each of us and we’re not all the same.  Not going to do the same things or think alike. I know a artist who paints pictures of Christ’s life to reach others.  I know people who build up and tear down a temporary facility for people to worship in a water park till a new building is built for the people that make up the church.  As my supervisor would say and she does often.  “With that being said.”  Every Christian is a little bit different.
How you respond and what God calls you to do is going to be slightly different.

Isaiah 6:8.
“Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send and who will go for Us?’  Then I said, ‘Here am I send me.’”

At some point in your life If you are a follower of God He is going to ask you to do things they won’t always make sense but the question is are you willing to show up and be used for his glory.  Another thing I know and count on with every blog is this promise of God because I often doubt anyone even reads this.

Isaiah 55:11
“So will my Word be which goes forth from my mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it.”

God promises when his Word is shared it won’t go forth without accomplishing it’s goal.  See I pray often asking God to let it be his Word that changes people and not anything I said.  But that verse Isaiah 55:11 takes on new meaning when you look at John chapter one.  When you discover Jesus was the Word of God made flesh.

John 1:1-5
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.  In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.  The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”

Safe Location

Safe location

You may look at that title of the blog and be confused.  Doing dispatch for roadside assistance i often ask “Are you and your vehicle in a safe location.”  My week started off with anything but a safe location.  My wife on Sunday had to be taken to to the emergency room.  She had an allergic reaction to a medication and she’s allergic to a lot of things.  It’s not a fun start to your week.  Days at work have been so stressful at least for me.  With hearing aids I walk onto the call floor and they amplify everything around me I’m confronted with literal walls of noise.  Since last week I have been yelled at by old ladies and double amputees and people that are just angry about their situations. We spend almost a full 8 hours just slammed with back to back calls you can’t even think or breathe very often between calls.  I often drive home in silence torn between wanting to hit something or break down crying.  I’ve been stressed out.  I pray before falling asleep and I’m starting to pray between lulls in calls.  I try to bring you the reader hope.  I need hope myself.  I got to thinking about the safe location concept. One of my life verses is Psalm 18:19

“He brought me forth also into a broad place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.”
See God is that safe location we can run to.

Psalm 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change and though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea; though it’s waters roar and foam, though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. “

Later in the chapter we find this.

46:10
“Cease striving and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

We don’t have to be in control in fact as much as we try we never could be.

Isaiah 26:4
“Trust in the Lord forever, For in God the Lord, we have an everlasting Rock.”

We can turn to God and cast our burdens on him 24/7 365.   Remember that.  Pray and seek Him.

Advocates

Advocates

I currently work at a job where we dispatch roadside assistance for our callers and as representatives on the phone we are advocates for the people because we have to get as much info for the service provider before we dispatch someone to assist the caller.  We have to get the location, problem with the vehicle and what kind of help, in addition to being as detailed as possible.  Because the more information we get the better prepared the service provider can be.

Advocate though is also a legal term.  If you look in the comics you merely look no further than Daredevil.  His alter ego Matt Murdock is a lawyer by day and a vigilante hero by night.  He helps the helpless.

Before Jesus left the earth he gave his followers another form of advocate.  It’s the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit is also referred to as a Helper, Spirit of Truth or an Advocate.

See I went on Bible Hub’s website and typed in advocate and this is some of what I found.

John 15:26-27
“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of Truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about me, and you will testify also because you have been with me from the beginning.”

John 14:16
“And I will ask the Father and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever.”

John 14:26
“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.”

The Christian’s advocate is better than any earthly one. Satan has been called the accuser but we have the Holy Spirit who advocates for us and when we are accused he points right back to the blood of Jesus that washes us clean.  In the definition I found of the word Advocate it is also described as a champion for a particular cause.  Writing this blog I try to be a champion for finding hope in God’s Word.  I had a previous ending to this blog but the more I thought about it well it felt weak.  So I want to end this with a question.  If the Holy Spirit who reminds you and me of Truth is a champion for it are you in turn a champion for pointing others to the cross of Christ are you a champion for Hope because Hope is found in Christ!  Hope is a person who died on the cross to redeem you and me.

New Start

Some of you may have been along for the ride for a while and some are new.  This blog has now gone on for eight years. It’s been known as a Batcave blog because years ago I advertised in a video with a Batgirl figure doing a Bible study at midnight at Denny’s for people who worked nights then over time it went online. Then for a time was called A Weekly Dose of Hope.  This is not a Zac thing nor have I ever wanted it to be.  God deserves the glory for it I don’t want to ever claim that.  We’re starting a new year called 2020 and I want to have a fresh start.  Like you I have stress in my life and frustration but we have chances to do things different.  We serve a God of second chances who invites us to come to Him with all our problems and we’re a mess.  For two days now I keep reading this section in Psalm 43 and I think we need it.  Not sure if you have ever watched the Broken Skull challenge starring Stone Cold Steve Austin but he takes competitors through what is called the Skull Buster obstacle course and at certain points if you fail an obstacle you have what is called a “Restart element”.   The beginning of a new year is your “Restart element “.  I want us to restart the blog this year with a chance to do three things.  1. Draw closer to God.  2. Praise Him more.  3. Find hope in his Word

If you give a little bit of time to this blog I will try to push you in the right direction.

Psalm 43:3-5

“O send out your light and your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling places.  Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy; and upon the lyre I shall praise you, O God, my God.
Why are you in despair,  O my soul? And why are you disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him.  The help of my countenance and my God.”

I don’t know where your heart or journey is with God but right here this moment right now it’s your restart element.  Where are you going what are you doing this year?  Are you going to take a chance and seek God?

“I still feel the pain the darkness of yesterday
The clouds that held no rain
Illusions remain and memories mock the truth
But God can break these chains
This day comes but once I live or I lose remember

No matter where we’ve been
No matter what we’ve done
Today can be our once in a lifetime
For yesterday is gone
Tomorrow may not come
This moment is our once in a lifetime.”
