Reason to Go

I came across 2 verses recently and it caused me to ask a question.  So first let me pose the question.  Why does your physical form cross the door frames of a church building?  Psalms 48:9-10 "O God, we meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your temple.  As your name deserves, O God, you will be praised to the ends of the earth.  Your strong hand is filled with victory."  One of the busiest times for churches aka Easter just happened.  It's essentially Wrestlemaina for Christians.  We have a savior Jesus Christ who was crucified, buried and rose from the dead.  He did it to save us from our sins.  The first verse there says "We meditate on your unfailing love as we worship in your temple."  A lot of people will go to Easter or Christmas services and never again but look at this.  Hebrews 10:25 "And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near."  Sure you can say you can worship God anywhere and you can but are you committed to being in his house meditating on his unfailing love and praising His name as he deserves?  By being in church you learn from God's word and praise him with other believers plus you're making a stand.  You are also drawing closer to God.  You are also part of the body of Christ.  So echo the words of Joshua.  "But as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."  Don't go to church because you have to out of compulsion go because you want to meditate on God's unfailing love!

Every once in a while my dad or someone will ask about the songs I post with the blog.  I know my taste in music may differ from others.  I try to pick ones appropriate for the posting.
The first song here is Cross of Gold by Michael W. Smith.  See much like church you can go and still not be changed by God.  The songs asks "Why do you wear your cross of Gold?"  Anybody can wear a cross around their neck but it means nothing till God changes your life.

Summons

As a writer things come to me in very weird ways.  Mentally I was working on a bible study while walking on my second patrol of the night.  It was about 3:58 am and I'm walking with a flashlight and a hard hat on when suddenly I realized I wasn't on the path anymore at all.  I'm walking through dirt, mud and grass and here's the irony of it all.  I had been singing Thy Word by Amy Grant which is taken from Psalm 119:105 "Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path."  You and I we're all on paths.  I want to take you back to 1986 when one of the greatest movies ever was shown.  In Transformers the Animated Movie Unicron uttered these words to Megatron.  "I have summoned you here for a purpose."  The Decepticon leader Megatron had his life completely altered from then on.  I don't know what path you're on.  Maybe like me you just stepped in the mud and went off the trail.  Somehow you ended up at this bible study blog.  Maybe it was a search engine, direct e-mail from me, someone shared it, or you found the link on face book.  You were summoned here.  Oh maybe you'll complain like Megatron that no one summons you but at this here blog Hope is shared so this is just for you.  Romans 5:6-8 "When we were utterly hopeless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.  Now, most people would not be willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing to die for a person who is especially good.  But God showed his great love for us while we were still sinners."  The reason you are reading this is to be reminded YOU ARE LOVED!!!!!

Refuge 3-17-16

I've been on a long stress filled painful journey lately.  I'm trying my best to keep learning and having my eyes fixed on Jesus.  I was praying tonight asking God to help me learn what he wanted me to.  Marion and I had things in our life shaken up quite a bit today.  Happened to both of us in different ways.  It's hard to get past the emotions at times.  2 Corinthians 10:5 refers to taking ever thought captive to make it obedient to Christ.  Lately in order for me to do that I have to very much remember to "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you."  So with all that said I was reading in Psalms and God got my attention off of me and on him with this.  Psalm 46:1-3 "God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.  So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.  Let the oceans roar and foam.  Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!"

Still King

A few nights ago I was standing at the waters edge and this came to mind as I stood watching the fish jumping.

The waves still come in
The birds still sing
The wind still moves
God you are still King.

2 Samuel 22

All you who read this blog I normally don't post something quite so long as I'm about to but this whole chapter hit home for me.  Since starting my job in January I have come to a job I love but a co-worker seeking to cause me harm.  2 Samuel 22 was my comfort I hope you read it.  Please keep me in prayer at my job because being falsely accused multiple times is really stressing me out.

2 Samuel 22

1David sang to the Lord the words of this song when the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. 2He said:
“The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer;
3my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shielda and the hornb of my salvation.
He is my stronghold, my refuge and my savior—
from violent people you save me.
4“I called to the Lord, who is worthy of praise,
and have been saved from my enemies.
5The waves of death swirled about me;
the torrents of destruction overwhelmed me.
6The cords of the grave coiled around me;
the snares of death confronted me.
7“In my distress I called to the Lord;
I called out to my God.
From his temple he heard my voice;
my cry came to his ears.
8The earth trembled and quaked,
the foundations of the heavensc shook;
they trembled because he was angry.
9Smoke rose from his nostrils;
consuming fire came from his mouth,
burning coals blazed out of it.
10He parted the heavens and came down;
dark clouds were under his feet.
11He mounted the cherubim and flew;
he soaredd on the wings of the wind.
12He made darkness his canopy around him—
the darke rain clouds of the sky.
13Out of the brightness of his presence
bolts of lightning blazed forth.
14The Lord thundered from heaven;
the voice of the Most High resounded.
15He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy,
with great bolts of lightning he routed them.
16The valleys of the sea were exposed
and the foundations of the earth laid bare
at the rebuke of the Lord,
at the blast of breath from his nostrils.
17“He reached down from on high and took hold of me;
he drew me out of deep waters.
18He rescued me from my powerful enemy,
from my foes, who were too strong for me.
19They confronted me in the day of my disaster,
but the Lord was my support.
20He brought me out into a spacious place;
he rescued me because he delighted in me.
21“The Lord has dealt with me according to my righteousness;
according to the cleanness of my hands he has rewarded me.
22For I have kept the ways of the Lord;
I am not guilty of turning from my God.
23All his laws are before me;
I have not turned away from his decrees.
24I have been blameless before him
and have kept myself from sin.
25The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to my cleannessf in his sight.
26“To the faithful you show yourself faithful,
to the blameless you show yourself blameless,
27to the pure you show yourself pure,
but to the devious you show yourself shrewd.
28You save the humble,
but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low.
29You, Lord, are my lamp;
the Lord turns my darkness into light.
30With your help I can advance against a troopg ;
with my God I can scale a wall.
31“As for God, his way is perfect:
The Lord’s word is flawless;
he shields all who take refuge in him.
32For who is God besides the Lord?
And who is the Rock except our God?
33It is God who arms me with strengthh
and keeps my way secure.
34He makes my feet like the feet of a deer;
he causes me to stand on the heights.
35He trains my hands for battle;
my arms can bend a bow of bronze.
36You make your saving help my shield;
your help has madei me great.
37You provide a broad path for my feet,
so that my ankles do not give way.
38“I pursued my enemies and crushed them;
I did not turn back till they were destroyed.
39I crushed them completely, and they could not rise;
they fell beneath my feet.
40You armed me with strength for battle;
you humbled my adversaries before me.
41You made my enemies turn their backs in flight,
and I destroyed my foes.
42They cried for help, but there was no one to save them—
to the Lord, but he did not answer.
43I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth;
I pounded and trampled them like mud in the streets.
44“You have delivered me from the attacks of the peoples;
you have preserved me as the head of nations.
People I did not know now serve me,
45foreigners cower before me;
as soon as they hear of me, they obey me.
46They all lose heart;
they come tremblingj from their strongholds.
47“The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock!
Exalted be my God, the Rock, my Savior!
48He is the God who avenges me,
who puts the nations under me,
49who sets me free from my enemies.
You exalted me above my foes;
from a violent man you rescued me.
50Therefore I will praise you, Lord, among the nations;
I will sing the praises of your name.
51“He gives his king great victories;
he shows unfailing kindness to his anointed,
to David and his descendants forever.”
