Stressed

Stressed

We live in a world of things that cause stress.  I want to start this blog by showing you lyrics to a song by DeGarmo and Key because I think we all can relate.  There comes a point where we need to get away and seek God.

“I cannot smile

Don’t blame me if I do not try

I might just cry

If you will please pardon me

While I get down on my knees

I’m stressed

So, baby, I’m stressed.

Searching my soul

Nothing I find that I’ve done wrong

Should bring this on

I’m not feeling like I should

When my sweat has turned to blood

When your light grows dim

Cast your cares on Him”

I had a moment this past week when I got home from work, and I was just mentally and emotionally exhausted.  I had previously read these passages I’m about to share, and I needed them. I needed to be reminded by God that he calls us to seek Him in prayer.  The struggles we face we can bring to Him.

Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.  Take my yoke upon you.  Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

1 Peter 5:7

“Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.”

Psalm 23:3

“He restores my soul.  He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”

“When life’s river

becomes a trickling stream

I’ve got to remember

He will make a way to find the sea

When the ground is dry and cracking

From the heat of my daily routine

That’s when I slow down and listen

And hear my Savior whispering

Come to me

Come to me

When you are weary

When you are wandering

Come to me, Come to me

Cast your cares upon the One

Whose yoke is easy

And who’s burden is light.”

Small thing

Small thing

I want to talk about ear wax.  What the heck is Zac doing starting a Bible study blog with such a weird statement? I’ll get to that in a little bit.  So, Friday night I was outdoors talking to my coworkers and not a whole lot of people know this but my wife and I both wear hearing aids.  Well as a person with hearing aids you tend to become a bit of a small-time mechanic as you learn to care for them.  See as my friends or coworkers talked, I noticed I had less and less hearing in my left ear.  It was a small thing.  Simply put ear wax was clogging my hearing aid.  Your ears will fight you.  There’s a reason I bring up a small thing like this you’re about to see.  I’m about to show you a passage that preachers have gone over many times at least in my hearing but I want to show you one specific word it’s a small thing, but it is actually huge.

Matthew 9:35-36

“Jesus travelled through all the towns and villages of that area, teaching in the synagogues and announcing the good news about the Kingdom.  And he healed every kind of disease and illness.  When he saw the crowds, he had Compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.”

“Everyone needs compassion

A love that’s never failing

Let mercy fall on me

Everyone needs forgiveness

The kindness of a Savior”

When you’re lost, confused or helpless you need compassion.  That’s the small word that’s huge.  Jesus is a great physician, and he has the perfect bedside manner.

It’s a small thing but we need compassion, and we need to show it to others.  I’m not always good at showing it.  You can’t exactly hear about compassion when ear wax clogs your ears.  Clean em out and learn something about a small word.  Yes, I’m ending this with a minor joke to make you think.

Admission

Admission of the problem.

We have a problem of sin, and we don’t like to admit it.

Romans 3:23 “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”

There’s a part of us called pride that makes us want to think we are better than other people.  Recently I watched this movie called The Masked Saint a really awesome movie on Tubi.  It’s about a pro wrestler who becomes a preacher, but he also becomes a vigilante crime fighter.  At one point he saves a prostitute from being beat to death.   She later starts coming to church.  All the churchgoers start reacting in disgust when she shows up.  The pastor calls out the entire church from the pulpit for their behavior because there’s not a single person in the whole congregation without some sin in their past or present.   I was reading in Matthew 9 and Jesus did the same exact thing with the Pharisees.

Matthew 9:9-13

“As Jesus was walking along, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at his tax collector’s booth.  ‘Follow me and be my disciple,’.   Jesus said to him.  So Matthew got up and followed him.  Later Matthew invited Jesus and his Disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners.  But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples.  ‘Why does your teacher eat with such scum?’

When Jesus heard this, he said.  ‘Healthy people don’t need a doctor— sick people do.’  Then he added, ‘Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture:’ I want you to show mercy; not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.’”

So many reactions in this.  Jesus called a tax collector.  In any setting Matthew would be the lowest of the low.  Then the Pharisees called him and his friends scum and sinners. Then Jesus put them in their place and told them to get off their high horse.  We can as people have all these different reactions and we need to admit we need God more than we realize.  I’ve said it before we have big attitudes for people who tip over when putting on underwear.  Simmer Down now! We all need Jesus.  Every one of us needs to seek him!

Bad Idea

Bad idea

Recently I saw an article on Facebook and it said that billionaire Bill Gates spent 1 billion dollars on climate change.  Now that’s just wasted money.  There are some people out there who buy into this climate change nonsense.  If you do, you exclude the sovereignty of God.  You tell God we can do a better job and decide what the weather will do.

Genesis 1:1

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

It wasn’t a Big Bang, and we didn’t evolve.  There is a creator and he’s still in control.  As for Mr. Gates and those buying into the Greta Thunberg and Al Gore nonsense well King Solomon has a verse just for you because sometimes, we’re stupid and make bad decisions.

Proverbs 19:3

“People ruin their lives by their own foolishness and are angry at the Lord.”

That’s correct when you follow this climate change nonsense you basically pick a fight with God and it’s not one you will ever win.

We need to remember the words of Psalm 46:10

“Be still, and know that I am God!

I will be honored by every nation.  I will be honored throughout the world.”

See there’s three fundamental principles to life you need to remember from all this.

1.     There is a God

2.   You are not Him

3.  There is no vacancy

Isaiah 55:8-9

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,’. declares the Lord.  ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth so are My ways higher than your ways And my thoughts than your thoughts.’”

Matthew 6:34

“So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself.  Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

Instead of seeking to change the climate and weather seek the God who created it all.
