Cause and effect

Cause and effect

There are a lot of verses in Proverbs that are very cause and effect.  If you do one thing this will happen.  A good term would be Bible based life math.  Like any math problem there is one thing plus another and then a result.  I ask the reader a lot in this blog “what are you seeking?”  It’s a question that matters.  Some of you have read this one illustration from me and some have not.  Years ago I took a motorcycle safety course and with a motorcycle you aren’t limited like you can be with the windshield of a car.  You have a helmet and you have to focus.  See a motorcycle is extremely responsive.  If you’ve never ridden one you don’t understand.  A motorcycle rider leans into turns.  My instructor told us a simple statement that is true of life as well.  “Where you look is where you will go.”  Say you’re on a motorcycle and you start looking at a cotton field well after enough time you start drifting that way.  We have multiple choices each day and each moment.  Proverbs 28:14 brings us to reality with one of them.

“Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.”

Every Easter on tv a channel will play the movie The Ten Commandments.  I read an article that this was the 45th consecutive year this movie was aired.  The movie depicts Moses by God’s power leading the people of Israel out of captivity in Egypt.  In Exodus it talks about the ten plagues and each time Moses tells Pharaoh let my people go.  Almost every time it says Pharaoh hardened his heart.  Until you get to the last three plagues.  After the plague of locusts in Exodus 10:20 “But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he would not let the Israelites go.”  Then in verse 27 after the plague of darkness “But the Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart and he was not willing to let them go.”

God gave him chance after chance to change then he started changing Pharaoh and the chances were over.  God gives us choices over and over but how we respond is what matters.  I said Proverbs 28:14 was cause and effect.  Read it again.

“Blessed is the man who always fears the Lord, but he who hardens his heart falls into trouble.”

Proverbs 1:7

“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, fools despise wisdom and discipline.”

I’m going to ask again what are you seeking?  Where’s your motorcycle going are you heading in the right direction?  Are you seeking after God or hardening your heart.  Your choices and thoughts are more important than you may realize.

Dennis Jernigan wrote a song called All in All and part of it says this.

“Seeking you as a precious jewel Lord to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all.”

Psalm 63:1

“O God, you are my God earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
