Christmas by way of Psalms 100

Before we look at Psalms 100 i want to shift your focus to Psalms 102:18.  "Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the Lord."  Think about that for a moment God has so preserved his word over the ages so you and I and even people to come after us who have yet to be born will praise him.

1.  "Shout with joy to the Lord all the earth!"  Ever seen those moments at churches where its so somber you'd think the service was for a funeral instead?  God wants his people to be joyful.
2.  "Worship the Lord with gladness.  Come before him singing with joy."  I'm not always the best in the joy and gladness department but I'm working on it.
3.  "Acknowledge that the Lord is God!  He made us and we are his.  We are his people the sheep of his pasture."  The first phrase in this verse says to acknowledge the Lord is God.  Lately when I'm having a bad time at work I have been walking outside at work letting a breath out and saying "God you're still in control."  It lifts a great weight off me.
4.  "Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise.  Give thanks to him and praise him."  God deserves our praise.
5.  "For the Lord is good.  His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation."

At Real Life Corpus we have been going over how worship ties into Christmas.  some of you need some good news to make you smile this Christmas and some of you need to worship God.  This is Christmas by way of Psalms 100.  Over 2000 years ago God who is good and his unfailing love continues forever sent his son because his faithfulness continues to all generations.  His word has been preserved for future generations to read and praise him.  Jesus isn't in a manger anymore He's a risen King that God sent to die on the cross to forgive you and me from our sins because of unfailing love.  This Christmas worship your King.

Psalms 89:14

I came across this verse the other night and it's descriptions appealed to me as a writer.  I doubt most people have paid attention to it.  When I think of God being on his throne I have never pictured it quite like this.

"Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne.  Unfailing love and truth walk before you as attendants."

Here are 4 aspects of God described as being the foundation of his throne and his attendants.  One thing i have noticed often in  2 studies of the book of Psalms is a constant mention of God's unfailing love.  They are two simple words but if you give them the thought they are due they are so powerful.  There are some of you like me who find great comfort in God's unconditional and unfailing love.  We've been hurt by the fleeting love of a human and we need to understand God loves us and his love won't fail us and won't end.  He gives us that promise to those who are saved.  Romans 8:37-39 "37But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

As you go through this week I urge you to dwell on God's righteousness, justice, truth and his unfailing love.

Happy Thanksgiving

Maybe you're like me and instead of Thanksgiving day maybe you got a horrible day of work.  I was having a great day till I got to work.  Just a thought I had pondered but when I had holidays to spend with family well I spent it with family.  I didn't obsess with Black Friday.  I didn't call credit cards or my bank.  I like all of you need to stop and live out the words of Psalms 150.  Typically I break things down verse by verse and have something to say but I don't feel the need to do so.  I'm just going to give you the words to the chapter and a little music to let you do exactly what God's word says.  Even though Thanksgiving day has come and gone we still need to be praising God.

Praise the Lord!  Praise God in his sanctuary; Praise him in his mighty Heaven!  Praise him for his mighty woks; Praise him for his unequaled greatness!   Praise him with the blast of the ram's horn; Praise him with the harp and lyre!  Praise him with the tambourine and dancing; Praise him with strings and flutes!  Praise him with the clash of cymbals; Praise him with loud clanging cymbals.  Let everything that breathes sing praises to the Lord!  Praise the Lord.
